 B.B. Olive,
a pioneer in intellectual property law in NC,
established the first patent law firm serving the
Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina when he
opened the doors of Olive & Olive in 1957. Mr. Olive
graduated with honors from Duke University's Pratt
School of Engineering and, while working for
Westinghouse International Corporation, earned his law
degree from St. John's University. He is admitted to the
bars of New York and North Carolina, as well as the
patent bar. In addition to practicing patent law, Mr.
Olive taught for many years at Duke's School of
Engineering and N.C. State's School of Product Design.
He founded the NC Bar Association's committee on
intellectual property law, fought segregation in the
profession, was a founder of the first Triangle-wide
association of entrepreneurs, and has been active in
civic affairs. Among other honors, Mr. Olive has
received military awards from both the U.S. and France,
an award for civic service from the State of North
Carolina, the Distinguished Alumnus Award of Duke
University's Pratt School of Engineering, and (for his
environmental work) the Charles Korstian Award of the
Nicholas School of the Environment.
