 Susan Freya Olive is a graduate of Brown
University (A.B. Medical-Legal Interface) and of Duke
University School of Law (J.D., Honors). Ms. Olive
joined the firm in 1979, after serving two years as
Special Counsel for the State of North Carolina. She has
authored numerous papers in the field and has lectured
widely to groups ranging from lawyers to nuclear
physicists, physicians and medical researchers, software
engineers, homebuilders and designers, authors, and
artists. Regularly named to the "Legal Elite"
of North Carolina (and the only female on the list in
the first years of its publication), Ms. Olive also has
headed numerous committees and associations. She served
three terms as the chair of the North Carolina Bar
Association Intellectual Property Law Committee, was
founding chair of its Law and Technology Committee, and
is past-president of the North Carolina Federal Bar
Advisory Council, the North Carolina Association of
Women Attorneys, the 14th Judicial District Bar and the
Durham County Bar Association. She has served as chair
of the North Carolina Board of Law Examiners and as a
member of the General Statutes Commission of the State.
She is a permanent member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial
Conference and is admitted to practice before that Court
as well as the State Courts of North Carolina, the
Eastern, Western and Middle District Federal Courts of
North Carolina, the United States Courts of Appeal for
the Federal Circuit and for the Armed Forces, and the
United States Supreme Court.
